LASISMA, AGEGE LG PARTNER TO REGULATE INFORMAL SPACES

The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) has partnered with the Agege Local Government to improve the regulation and management of informal spaces within the area.

The partnership is aimed at promoting better organisation of informal commercial activities while ensuring that public spaces are used in a safe and orderly manner.

Officials said the collaboration would help address challenges associated with the unregulated use of public spaces, including congestion, obstruction of roads and walkways, and activities that may pose environmental or safety concerns.

The initiative is also expected to improve coordination between state and local government authorities in managing informal economic activities across Agege.

Stakeholders noted that informal businesses provide livelihoods for many residents, making it important for government interventions to balance regulation with the economic interests of traders, artisans, and other small business operators.

LASISMA officials said engagement with local communities and businesses would remain important to the success of the programme, particularly in ensuring that operators understand applicable rules and requirements.

The partnership forms part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to improve urban planning and create more organised public spaces while supporting legitimate economic activities.

Residents and business operators in Agege are expected to work with both authorities as the initiative progresses.
