LASG, AWAMN PLAN REFORMS TO IMPROVE WASTE DISPOSAL

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Waste Management Authority, has begun working with the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria to reform waste collection and disposal services across the state.

The engagement is aimed at creating a more efficient, accountable, and sustainable system for managing waste through the state’s Private Sector Participation sector.

Officials said the discussions would focus on existing challenges affecting waste collection, identify practical solutions, and develop a roadmap for improving services across Lagos.

The initiative is particularly important as the state continues to deal with growing waste volumes driven by its expanding population and economic activities.

LAWMA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the agency was committed to working with private sector operators to build a modern and citizen-focused waste management system.

He said the reform process would take into account the operational realities faced by waste managers and the views of key stakeholders.

The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria is expected to contribute its experience and expertise as both parties develop measures to improve efficiency and accountability within the sector.

The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to promote a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient city through stronger public-private partnerships.

LAWMA said the reform programme would also support the long-term sustainability of waste collection operations and improve service delivery to residents across the state.
