LALIGA TURNS DOWN REAL MADRID’S REQUEST TO DELAY SEASON OPENER AGAINST OSASUNA

Real Madrid will have to stick to their original schedule after LaLiga rejected their request to postpone their opening match of the 2025/26 season against Osasuna.

According to Carrusel Deportivo, the Spanish giants had sought to move their first LaLiga game to October 29, a proposal that had the backing of both Osasuna and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). However, LaLiga has turned down the request, meaning the clash will go ahead as initially planned.

Xabi Alonso’s side are now set to kick off their new campaign at home against Osasuna on Tuesday, August 19, at the Santiago Bernabéu. This fixture is part of a season that officially starts on Friday, August 15, and will run through to Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Real Madrid’s attempt to shift the match was likely aimed at managing their packed schedule or giving the squad more time to prepare after pre-season. But with LaLiga holding firm, the reigning European heavyweights must now focus on getting off to a strong start against a determined Osasuna side.

Fans will be eager to see how Xabi Alonso’s team, brimming with new signings and fresh hopes, handle their opening test as they chase another LaLiga title.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
