LAKURAWA TERRORISTS AMBUSH CONVOY OF FEDERAL LAWMAKER JAFARU DAMISA — SOLDIER KILLED, SEVERAL INJURED IN NIGER STATE
A deadly ambush by Lakurawa terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, has left one soldier dead and several others injured after they attacked the convoy of Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, the Member representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
According to SaharaReporters, the assault occurred between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area, while the lawmaker was en route to Babanna town for an official function.
Eyewitnesses said the heavily armed attackers laid an ambush on the route and opened fire on the convoy, catching Damisa’s security team and aides completely off guard.
“One soldier was killed on the spot, while about eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The wounded personnel were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, New Bussa,” a security source revealed.
Four of Damisa’s supporters were also reportedly struck by stray bullets, though none were fatally wounded, according to hospital officials.
The terrorists allegedly vandalised at least 11 vehicles, riddling them with bullets and causing extensive damage before escaping into the nearby forest.
“They destroyed about 11 vehicles in the convoy and left the road littered with bullet casings,” another eyewitness told reporters.
Despite the intensity of the attack, Hon. Damisa survived after his security team swiftly repelled the assault with support from troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna, who responded to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel.
Their reinforcement reportedly forced the bandits to retreat into the forest, preventing further casualties among the lawmaker’s entourage.
