Odumodublvck Says Lagos is the Worst Place for Young Artists to Grow

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has sparked conversations on social media after declaring that Lagos is the worst place for young artists to develop their careers.

The Abuja-bred music star, known for his bold and unfiltered opinions, claimed that the competitive and cutthroat nature of Lagos’ entertainment scene can turn aspiring talents into “greedy, selfish, and self-centered packaged beasts.”

In a post on his X handle, Odumodublvck wrote:

“The worst place for a young artist to grow is Lagos. It’s the most selfish place to grow.
You will become them; a greedy, selfish, and self-centered packaged beast.
That’s why it was easy to run through the industry as The Machine wey I be. I too real for una.”

Odumodublvck attributed his edge in the Nigerian music industry to his upbringing in Abuja, suggesting that the city’s environment allowed him to remain authentic to himself, unlike the high-pressure, survival-of-the-fittest culture he associates with Lagos.

His comments have since stirred mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that Lagos can be overwhelming for up-and-coming talents, while others argue that the city remains the hub for music opportunities in Nigeria.

One thing is certain — the debate over Lagos’ influence on the music industry is far from over.
