LAGOS UNVEILS PLAN TO CLOSE HIV TREATMENT GAPS

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a three-year strategic plan aimed at closing gaps in HIV prevention, testing and treatment across the state by 2027.

The plan is designed to improve access to HIV services and ensure that more people living with HIV are diagnosed early and remain connected to treatment.

The state government said the strategy would strengthen coordination among government agencies, healthcare providers, development partners and community organisations involved in the HIV response.

The initiative will focus on expanding prevention programmes, improving testing services and addressing barriers that prevent people from accessing or continuing treatment.

Authorities also plan to strengthen data systems and community-based interventions to identify areas where HIV services are most needed.

The government said greater attention would be given to vulnerable groups and communities that face difficulties accessing healthcare, while efforts would continue to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV.

Health officials stressed that achieving the 2027 targets would require sustained funding, stronger partnerships and greater public awareness.

The state said the strategic plan forms part of its broader effort to improve healthcare delivery and reduce the impact of HIV on individuals, families and communities across Lagos.
