LAGOS TURNS TO WASTE SOLUTIONS AS LANDFILLS FACE GROWING PRESSURE

Lagos residents have been encouraged to adopt alternative waste management practices as major dumpsites across the state continue to experience rising pressure from increasing volumes of waste.

Environmental stakeholders warned that the rapid growth in population and daily waste generation is putting strain on existing disposal facilities, creating the need for improved recycling, waste sorting, and reuse initiatives.

They urged households, businesses, and communities to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills by embracing sustainable practices such as separating recyclable materials, composting organic waste, and supporting recycling companies.

Experts noted that Lagos produces a significant amount of waste daily, making traditional landfill-based disposal methods increasingly difficult to sustain. They stressed that a shift toward a circular economy approach would help reduce environmental challenges while creating new economic opportunities.

Authorities and environmental groups called for stronger public participation and investment in modern waste management infrastructure to address the growing challenge.
