The Lagos State Government has advised 341 senior officers in the Unified Local Government Service to begin preparing early for retirement and life after active public service.

The advice was given during a pre-retirement training organised by the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training at the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area Secretariat in Ilupeju.

The programme, themed “Beyond Retirement: Preparing for a Healthy, Purposeful and Prosperous Chapter,” focused on financial planning, health, personal development and other issues associated with retirement.

Representing the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Planning, Wasiu Olayinka, said workers should not wait until their final days in service before preparing for retirement.

The Permanent Secretary of OLGE&T, Toyin Ogunlana, also urged the officers to see retirement as a transition rather than the end of their productivity.

She encouraged them to consider activities such as entrepreneurship, investments, learning new skills, mentoring and community service after leaving government employment.

The government said the training was designed to help retiring officers prepare adequately for the financial, health and personal changes that come with leaving active service.
