The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged young boys in the state to avoid cybercrime and uphold strong moral values, stressing the importance of discipline, integrity, and responsible social media use in shaping a brighter future.

Speaking at the Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop, themed “Re-Orientating the Boy Child to Become an Ambassador”, held Wednesday at St. Gregory’s College, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu highlighted the need for mentorship and guidance, noting that many boys are drawn into criminal activities due to peer pressure, poor orientation, and the allure of quick money.

She emphasised that in today’s digital age, boys must cultivate moral values, emotional intelligence, and a sense of responsibility. “True leadership begins with integrity and the courage to make the right decisions, even under pressure,” she said.

“Today marks another significant step in raising a generation of well-rounded young men—boys who are not only academically sound but also morally upright, socially responsible, and emotionally stable to face future challenges,” Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu added. She also praised the quality of resource persons engaged for the programme, noting that participants had gained insights on cybercrime, productive social media use, and the importance of embracing strong moral and godly values.

The governor’s wife expressed concern that, historically, boys have received less guidance compared to the attention given to the girl child. She stressed that while initiatives empowering girls remain vital, equal efforts are necessary to ensure that boys are not left behind.

In her remarks, Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Deputy Governor, described the initiative as a strategic effort to guide young boys towards becoming responsible, confident, and purposeful individuals. She encouraged participants to approach every lesson, interaction, and experience with an open mind and willing heart, highlighting the workshop as an opportunity to learn, grow, and realise their full potential.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
