LAGOS RESIDENTS RAISE ALARM OVER UNSAFE CONSTRUCTION IN VICTORIA ISLAND
Residents and business owners around 28 Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, have cried out over what they describe as a serious safety threat posed by an ongoing multi-storey construction project.
The development, being handled by Diplomat Homes Limited, is alleged to be violating basic safety standards. According to residents, the site lacks proper protective measures such as barricades, safety nets, and shields, putting lives and property at risk.
They revealed that falling planks, stones, and debris from the site have already damaged cars, walls, ceilings, and windows in nearby compounds. While no one has been injured yet, residents fear it is “only by God’s grace” that tragedy has been avoided so far.
Beyond property damage, their biggest concern is the possibility of serious injury or loss of life if nothing is done.
The occupants are now calling on the Lagos State Government, particularly the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, to urgently step in and enforce compliance with building safety standards.
They insist that unless swift action is taken, the situation could escalate into a disaster that could have been prevented.
