LAGOS RELEASES N24M GRANT TO DISABILITY ORGANISATIONS FOR GRASSROOTS SUPPORT

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has provided N24 million in financial intervention to 12 registered Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) across the state, in a move aimed at strengthening their operations and improving services delivered to people living with disabilities. The funds were presented to the beneficiary organisations on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at LASODA’s premises in Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking during the presentation, LASODA General Manager, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the intervention was designed to give registered disability organisations direct financial assistance while improving their ability to carry out advocacy, support and economic empowerment programmes. She explained that the initiative forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader development agenda, particularly its commitment to social inclusion and ensuring that persons with disabilities have opportunities to participate meaningfully in the state’s development.

Oyetunde-Lawal described the organisations as important partners in the government’s efforts to promote disability inclusion, noting that their grassroots presence gives them a better understanding of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities within their communities. According to her, stronger collaboration between LASODA and the organisations would help ensure that support programmes are better targeted and reach those who need them most.

She further reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the wellbeing and socio-economic participation of persons with disabilities across Lagos. The intervention is expected to enable the beneficiary organisations to strengthen their programmes, expand advocacy activities and provide more effective support to members of the disability community.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chairman of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, Tolani Ojuri, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and LASODA for the financial assistance and their continued partnership with the disability community. The intervention is part of ongoing efforts by the state to promote a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities can access opportunities and contribute fully to community and economic development.
