The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody officers accused of assaulting well-known actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, for further investigation.

The development was confirmed on Friday, February 6, 2026, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, amid growing public attention over the alleged incident.

According to Adebisi, the officers involved have been identified, and the command has launched an internal investigation. Statements are being collected from all parties, including the actor, his accompanying friend, and the implicated officers.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. Currently, statements are being obtained from the officers, the complainant, and his friend. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses,” the spokesperson stated.

The incident came to light after a video circulated on social media showing Ijoba Lande in the front passenger seat of a vehicle with visible injuries, including bleeding on the left side of his face and bruises. In the footage, the actor, speaking in Yoruba, repeatedly requested water while bystanders urged him to report the matter at a police station.

A voice in the video claimed that personnel from the Area “J” Police Division were responsible for the alleged assault, describing the act as wrongful. By the end of the clip, the group appeared to have reached a police facility, where the actor was visibly calmer.

The video’s caption also alleged that the actor was robbed during the incident, with his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 in cash belonging to his brother reportedly taken. “I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption read.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the case is being handled seriously and that appropriate actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
