Four Arrested in Lagos Over ₦500m Fake Visa Fraud

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects accused of running a massive visa scam that defrauded over 100 Nigerians of more than ₦500 million.

According to Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, the suspects — aged 23, 25, 27, and 36 — were apprehended on July 16 by officers from the Ago-Okota Division. They were later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Police say the suspects worked for an educational consultancy and posed as visa facilitators, promising Canadian and Australian work visas to unsuspecting victims.

“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects fraudulently obtained over ₦500 million from more than 100 victims under the false pretense of securing overseas work visas,” CP Jimoh stated.

The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges in court once investigations are concluded. Authorities are still pursuing other members of the network who remain at large.

The police have urged Nigerians to be cautious when dealing with individuals or agencies offering quick, guaranteed visas, noting that genuine immigration processes involve official government channels.
