One person has died and three men have been rescued after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Fadeyi, Lagos State.

Several others are feared trapped beneath the rubble, with emergency teams continuing efforts to locate survivors.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

He said the agency received a distress call at 12:10 a.m. and immediately deployed its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu Base. Responders arrived two minutes later and began searching the collapsed structure.

Initial observations suggested that construction workers might have been trapped. During the operation, rescuers heard groaning beneath the debris, raising hopes of finding more people alive.

An excavator was deployed to help remove rubble and reach areas where victims were believed to be trapped. Responders also introduced safety measures to protect survivors and rescue personnel.

The three rescued men received immediate medical attention from LASEMA paramedics and the Lagos State Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

The operation involved LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ambulance personnel and police officers from Alagbon Division.

At the time of the statement, emergency teams were still searching to establish whether more workers remained beneath the wreckage.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the relevant regulatory agencies would investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
