LAGOS ISSUES EBOLA ALERT TO HOTELS, EVENT CENTRES AND SOCIAL VENUES
The Lagos State Government has issued a precautionary advisory to operators of hotels, event centres, lounges, restaurants, nightclubs and other social venues as concerns grow over the regional Ebola outbreak.
The Lagos State Safety Commission urged hospitality and entertainment businesses to strengthen health and safety measures to prevent any possible spread of the disease within the state. The advisory is part of ongoing efforts to keep residents safe and ensure businesses remain prepared in the event of a public health emergency.
Authorities called on facility managers to improve hygiene practices, monitor staff and visitors for symptoms, and ensure that workers are informed about Ebola prevention measures. The government stressed that the advisory is a preventive step and does not mean there is an Ebola outbreak in Lagos.
The warning comes as health officials across Nigeria increase surveillance following reports of Ebola cases in parts of East and Central Africa. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified Lagos among states considered at higher risk of Ebola importation because of international travel and population movement.
In recent weeks, Lagos authorities have intensified screening, preparedness and biosecurity measures at key entry points, including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, while health agencies continue to monitor developments closely.
Officials have advised residents and business owners to maintain proper hand hygiene, report suspected symptoms promptly, and rely on information from verified health authorities. They reassured the public that Lagos remains on alert and is taking proactive steps to prevent any potential outbreak.
