LAGOS GOVERNMENT TO SUE SOCIAL MEDIA USER OVER FALSE FLOOD VIDEO
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to take legal action against a social media user who allegedly circulated a false video claiming severe flooding in parts of the state.
The government described the video as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents. Officials stated that the clip was fabricated and did not reflect the actual situation on ground, as relevant agencies had already activated flood mitigation measures.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy emphasised that the state would not tolerate deliberate misinformation that could undermine public confidence or disrupt emergency response efforts. Legal proceedings are expected to commence soon to serve as a deterrent to others.
Stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that misinformation during emergency situations can hamper effective disaster management and create avoidable chaos. They called for greater responsibility on social media platforms and urged users to verify information before sharing.
The Lagos State Government reassured residents of its commitment to transparency and timely communication during emergencies. It also encouraged citizens to rely on official channels for accurate updates on flood situations and other public safety matters.
