A 56-year-old maintenance worker was rescued over the weekend after falling into an 80-foot-deep well in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

The prompt response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, particularly the Ejigbo Station, ensured the man’s safe recovery. The incident took place at No. 12 Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road near Molad Bus Stop. The well, situated behind an eight-room bungalow on a 648-square-metre plot, became a site of emergency after the worker became trapped during maintenance activities.

Emergency responders were dispatched immediately upon receiving the distress call. The unnamed man was successfully pulled out alive, much to the relief of concerned residents and his family, who had gathered at the scene.

Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, praised the swift and professional efforts of the rescue team. She noted that initial investigations suggest the man may not have followed proper safety protocols before entering the well.

“Preliminary findings indicate a possible neglect of standard safety measures,” Adeseye said. “We urge the public to always involve relevant authorities when undertaking high-risk tasks.”

She further emphasized that early alerts allow the fire service to implement necessary precautions and deploy support teams efficiently, significantly improving safety and survival outcomes in emergency situations.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
