LAGOS DUMPSITE CRISIS DISRUPTS WASTE EVACUATION ACROSS THE STATE

A major crisis at key dumpsites in Lagos State has severely disrupted waste evacuation efforts, leaving many communities with accumulating refuse.

The situation has been attributed to capacity constraints, operational challenges, and disputes between waste management authorities and private operators. Residents in several areas have complained about the unpleasant odour and health risks posed by uncollected waste piling up on streets.

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) acknowledged the disruption and assured residents that efforts are underway to resolve the issue and restore normal operations. Officials appealed for patience and urged citizens to practice proper waste segregation while the situation is being addressed.

Environmental experts have warned that prolonged disruption could lead to public health emergencies if not quickly resolved. They called for long-term solutions including investment in more dumpsites, modern waste processing facilities, and better coordination between government and private sector players.

The state government has promised to engage all stakeholders to find a sustainable resolution to the dumpsite crisis and prevent future occurrences. Residents are advised to adhere to sanitation guidelines during this period.
