LAGOS COURT REMANDS 44-YEAR-OLD OLORI ESHO OVER MULTIPLE MURDER CHARGES
A 44-year-old man, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, has been remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, over multiple murder and violent crime charges.
The presiding magistrate, Mobolaji Tanimola, gave the remand order on Tuesday, stating that Akinwande will remain in custody for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Akinwande is facing a serious 11-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force, which includes:
Conspiracy
Multiple counts of murder
Attempted murder
Unlawful possession of firearms and weapons
Membership of an unlawful society
Threat to life
Infliction of grievous bodily harm
According to the prosecution counsel, Nosa Uhumwangho, the alleged crimes occurred at different times and locations across Lagos State between December 2010 and April 2025. Some of the areas listed include Mushin, Surulere, Idi-Araba, and Fadeyi.
One of the most disturbing incidents, the court heard, took place at Mosalashi Street, Mushin, where Akinwande, allegedly in possession of an AK-47 rifle, shot and killed two young men — 30-year-old Yusuf Bolakale and 23-year-old Yusuf Ramadan. He was reportedly on the run for a while before finally being arrested in the Alagbado area.
In another chilling case, Akinwande was accused of shooting a 10-year-old girl, Aminat Lateef, who was running an errand along Tiamiyu Street, Fadeyi, in 2010.
Perhaps the most shocking allegation was the killing of six individuals, including two identified as Anyila and Ojajo, during a violent clash between rival cult groups on July 31, 2024, in Idi-Araba.
Given the gravity of the allegations, the court ordered that Akinwande remain in detention as investigations continue and legal advice is awaited.
The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against cult violence and criminal gangs in parts of Lagos, and authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
