LAGOS CLEARS WASTE BUILDUP ALONG AYOBO-IPAJA AXIS

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a special intervention to clear accumulated waste along the Ayobo-Ipaja axis, particularly around Megida and its environs.

The intervention followed concerns over indiscriminate dumping on road medians, with LAWMA deploying its operational and enforcement teams to clear the affected areas and prevent the waste from returning.

LAWMA said illegal trading activities, including markets operating on road medians, and residents’ failure to use their assigned Private Sector Participation operators were among the factors contributing to the recurring waste buildup.

The agency also apprehended two tricycles allegedly transporting waste from the community to the road medians.

LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, urged residents, traders, and businesses in the area to use approved waste collection channels and avoid dumping refuse on roadsides, medians, and other unauthorised locations.

He said clearing the accumulated waste was only part of the intervention, stressing that sustained enforcement and cooperation from residents would be necessary to prevent renewed dumping.

The agency warned that anyone who obstructs or attacks its personnel during lawful operations would face prosecution.
