LAGOS CHARGES OVER 100 SUSPECTS FOLLOWING VI-LEKKI-AJAH CRACKDOWN

The Lagos State Government has arraigned more than 100 suspects before the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, following a major enforcement operation across the Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah axis. The defendants are facing allegations including breaches of public peace, unlawful conversion of government property for personal use and conduct capable of causing a breakdown of law and order. The state government disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the prosecution, led by Oluwabusola Omotunde on behalf of the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the suspects were arrested during an early-morning operation conducted between 2am and 4am on Friday, September 4, 2026. The operation covered parts of the Victoria Island-Lekki-Ajah corridor as the government intensified enforcement against activities it said could threaten public order and undermine the lawful use of government property.

The arraignment forms part of the Lagos State Government's broader efforts to address disturbances and activities considered capable of disrupting peace in some of the state's major commercial and residential districts. Authorities have increasingly relied on enforcement operations in areas such as Lekki, Victoria Island and Ajah in response to complaints and concerns over disorder, illegal occupation and other activities viewed as threats to public safety.

The government maintained that the prosecution of the suspects was intended to ensure that individuals accused of violating state laws are subjected to due process rather than being dealt with outside the judicial system. The defendants will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations against them as proceedings continue before the Special Offences Mobile Court.

The latest action underscores the Lagos Government's continued push to maintain public order and regulate activities across densely populated parts of the state. Officials are expected to sustain enforcement in affected areas, while residents and business operators have been urged to comply with relevant laws and avoid activities that could lead to further disturbances or legal action.
