Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi have firmly stated that the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is not responsible for recent flooding incidents in the state.

The two leaders, during a joint inspection of affected areas, attributed the floods primarily to heavy rainfall, poor drainage systems, and indiscriminate waste disposal rather than construction activities. “The highway project is designed with proper environmental considerations and will not cause flooding. Blaming it is misplaced,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Umahi echoed the governor’s position, explaining that the project includes advanced drainage solutions and is being executed with due regard for ecological balance. He urged residents to support the initiative, which is expected to boost economic activities and connectivity.

The clarification comes amid public concerns linking the massive infrastructure project to environmental challenges. Both officials assured that mitigation measures are in place and that the project remains on track.

The Lagos-Calabar Highway is one of the flagship projects of the current administration aimed at transforming coastal infrastructure.
