LAGOS BLUE LINE BOOSTS OPERATIONS AS DAILY TRAIN TRIPS RISE TO 94
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced an increase in daily operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, raising the number of trips from 90 to 94 per day in a move aimed at improving commuter convenience and reducing waiting times.
According to LAMATA, the revised schedule will take effect on June 15, with weekday and Saturday services now starting at 6:00 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6:30 a.m. departure time. Authorities say the adjustment is designed to accommodate the growing number of passengers relying on the rail system for faster and more reliable transportation across Lagos.
The transport agency noted that while train operations will continue to end at 9:30 p.m., the additional trips are expected to ease congestion at stations and improve overall travel efficiency for commuters. Sunday services have also been expanded, increasing from 22 to 24 daily trips, with trains operating at regular 30-minute intervals.
Since commercial passenger operations began in September 2023, the Blue Line has become a key component of Lagos' urban transportation network. LAMATA revealed that the rail service has transported more than six million passengers, highlighting its growing importance in reducing travel times and road traffic congestion within the state.
Transportation experts view the latest expansion as another step toward strengthening public transit infrastructure in Lagos. With ongoing work on the Blue Line's extension and other rail projects, commuters can expect further improvements aimed at enhancing mobility and supporting the city's rapidly growing population.
