LAGOS BEGINS PHASED ACTIVATION OF IMOTA INDUSTRIAL HUB

The Lagos State Government has begun the phased activation of the Imota Industrial Hub in Ikorodu as part of efforts to boost manufacturing, support businesses and create more jobs.

The decision followed an assessment of the facility by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, and the Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund, Afiz Ogun. The assessment found that some sections already had infrastructure, production spaces and machinery that could support immediate operations.

The government said it would begin with facilities that are ready for use while addressing outstanding infrastructure and operational needs in phases.

The activation plan includes identifying priority industrial clusters, assessing power requirements, setting up facility management structures and attracting manufacturers, processors and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Agriculture and agro-processing have been identified as key areas, with opportunities in food processing, packaging, agricultural inputs, equipment maintenance, storage and logistics.

The second phase will focus on bringing suitable businesses into the hub, commencing production and introducing technical training programmes in partnership with the ITF.

The state government also plans to address issues including electricity, security, logistics, maintenance and worker accommodation as the hub expands.

Officials said the industrial hub is expected to combine manufacturing with skills development and business support, helping to strengthen local value chains and create more economic opportunities in Lagos.
