The Lagos State Government has arrested three residents for illegally dumping waste at an unauthorised location in the Ayobo area of the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrests in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

According to Wahab, the suspects — 65-year-old Awosunle Akinola, 47-year-old Adepeju Seun, and Solamipe Akanwo — were apprehended during an overnight enforcement operation carried out by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team.

“The LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team apprehended three individuals during an overnight operation for illegally disposing of waste at an unauthorised location in the Ayobo area of Lagos,” Wahab said.

He added that the offenders have been handed over to LAWMA’s legal department at the Oshodi Taskforce Office for further prosecution.

The commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, warning that anyone caught dumping waste indiscriminately will face strict legal consequences.

This latest move is part of Lagos State’s ongoing crackdown on environmental offences, aimed at promoting proper waste management and ensuring a cleaner city for all residents.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
