LAGOS AIRPORT TRANSPORT COSTS SURGE AS E-HAILING RESTRICTIONS HIT PASSENGERS

Passengers travelling through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos are facing steep increases in transportation costs following restrictions on ride-hailing services operating within airport premises.

Travellers who previously paid around ₦6,000 to ₦8,000 for trips using services such as Uber and Bolt are now reporting fares of up to ₦30,000 through the newly introduced FAAN taxi service.

One passenger, identified as Chude on X, complained about the sharp difference in fares, saying a trip from the airport to Radisson Hotel in Ikeja cost him ₦30,000, while InDrive quoted ₦6,000 for the same destination.

The fare increase follows the suspension of Uber and Bolt operations within FAAN-managed airport terminals. FAAN had directed the operators to stop commercial activities pending the completion of licensing agreements, while also introducing stricter compliance requirements for airport car-hire services.

The restrictions have sparked concerns among passengers over the cost of accessing airport transportation, with travellers calling for more affordable options and greater competition among approved transport providers.
