LAGOS 2027: GAC ENDORSES HAMZAT AS APC CONSENSUS CANDIDATE

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest advisory body of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, has endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a post shared on X.

According to the post, the endorsement was unanimously agreed upon during a meeting of the council held at Lagos House, Marina.

Gawat stated that the announcement was made by GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, who spoke on behalf of members of the council.\

He also said the council members jointly paid for Hamzat’s nomination form.

The endorsement signals growing support for Hamzat within the Lagos chapter of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development comes shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu publicly backed Hamzat as his preferred successor.

Sanwo-Olu made the declaration after a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally informed party leaders and members of the State Executive Council of his intention to contest.

The governor described Hamzat as a capable and prepared leader who understands the workings of government.

He also praised the deputy governor’s integrity, loyalty, commitment and years of support.

The latest endorsement further strengthens Hamzat’s standing within the APC as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next general elections.

With backing from both the governor and the influential GAC, Hamzat now appears to have significant momentum in the race for Lagos State’s top seat.
