The crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) took a dramatic turn on Friday when the factional national chairman, Julius Abure, was reportedly physically attacked at the Benin Airport in Edo State.

According to a statement from the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led faction, Obiora Ifoh, the incident began earlier at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, confronted Abure while he was boarding a Max Air flight to Benin.

Ifoh alleged that the confrontation continued during the flight despite efforts by flight attendants to calm Oruche down. The situation reportedly escalated upon arrival in Benin, where she allegedly attempted to lunge at Abure again before security operatives intervened, whisking him away and handing her over to the police.

The LP spokesman further claimed that Oruche, said to be a content creator and member of a “known political family,” had previously boasted online about being untouchable because of her connections within the police. She also allegedly accused Abure of “killing the Labour Party” and being the reason “Obi is no longer in the party.”

Describing the incident as a “suicidal aggression” against the party’s leadership, Ifoh called on the Inspector General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

He added: “The leadership of the Labour Party is completely troubled with this cyber bullying and the consequences of the action of this political agent on the party. This is a deliberate attempt by anti-democratic forces to destabilise the Labour Party.”

Despite the tensions, the Abure-led faction has urged party members to remain calm while the police authorities handle the situation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
