KWARA WOMAN COLLAPSES IN COURT AS HUSBAND INSISTS ON DIVORCE
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Area Court Centre in Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday when a woman, identified as Mulikat Yusuf, fainted after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, refused her plea for reconciliation and insisted on ending their marriage.
The incident occurred during proceedings before Judge Toyin Aluko, where Abdulganiyu declared that he was no longer interested in the union.
“My Lord, I’m tired of the marriage,” he reportedly said. “We’ve had several disagreements, and I see no reason to continue.”
In response, Mulikat broke down in tears, pleading with the court to intervene and save her marriage.
“My Lord, please talk to him,” she begged. “I have nowhere else to go. I’ve had six children with him, and I still want our marriage to work.”
Despite her emotional appeal, Abdulganiyu maintained his stance, expressing his firm decision to proceed with the divorce. Moments later, the heartbroken woman left the courtroom weeping but collapsed outside, sparking panic among court staff and spectators.
Sympathisers quickly rushed to assist her, reviving her by sprinkling water on her face.
A court official, who preferred not to be named, confirmed that Mulikat regained consciousness after a few minutes and was helped to a bench to recover.
“She fainted immediately after the man insisted he would not change his decision,” the official explained. “People gathered to help, and she was revived with water.”
Judge Toyin Aluko later advised Mulikat to make further efforts toward reconciliation and to resolve their marital issues peacefully.
The case was adjourned until December 10, 2025, for a report on the reconciliation or continuation of the hearing.
