KWARA SHUTS ILORIN HOUSE OVER DANGEROUS WASTE DUMPING
The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed off a residential building in the Agbo-Oba area of Ilorin for illegally disposing of human waste mixed with sand along a public roadside — a practice officials say poses serious health and environmental risks.
According to a statement released on Monday by KWEPA’s press secretary, Aliyu Jamiu Amode, the enforcement operation was led by the agency’s Environmental Task Force under Alhaji Yinusa Jidah. The move aligns with KWEPA’s mission to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment across Kwara State.
Speaking on the operation, the General Manager of KWEPA, Jide Aina, explained that the agency’s action was not to intimidate residents but to correct grave environmental violations that could trigger disease outbreaks.
“Our job is to protect the environment and prevent diseases that may result from such careless practices,” Aina said. He urged residents to adopt proper waste disposal methods and keep their surroundings tidy at all times.
Aina also reassured the public of KWEPA’s commitment to enforcing environmental standards, especially in densely populated areas, and encouraged citizens to report any environmental hazards they observe in their communities.
The agency appealed for full cooperation from residents, stressing that adherence to environmental regulations is key to safeguarding public health and ensuring sustainable living across Kwara.
