KWARA NUT LAMENTS DELAY IN TEACHERS’ ALLOWANCE PAYMENT

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has voiced concerns over the prolonged delay in the payment of Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA).

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Wahab Agboola, and Deputy Secretary-General, Mike Modesty, the union criticized the state government’s silence on the matter.

According to the NUT, despite repeated engagements, the government has yet to address the 27.5% and 21% TSA arrears owed to teachers.

After a meeting with key stakeholders in Ilorin on Tuesday, the union resolved that before issuing any formal ultimatum or taking industrial action, teachers across the state would dedicate a day to fasting and prayer, seeking divine intervention on the issue.

The union, while commending the government for approving financial backing for the 2024 TESCOM promotion exercise, stressed that welfare matters, particularly the payment of allowances, must remain a top priority to sustain teachers’ morale and productivity.

Teachers in the state were urged to remain calm and await further instructions from the union’s leadership.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
