The Obbo-Aiyegunle community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has appealed to the Ekiti State Deputy Governor’s Office to avoid actions or statements that could worsen tensions between the community and residents of Eda-Oniyo.

The community made the appeal amid an ongoing dispute involving the two neighbouring communities, expressing concern that the situation could escalate if residents are encouraged to take opposing positions against one another.

The residents urged the authorities to approach the matter with caution and allow dialogue to take place between the affected communities rather than allowing the disagreement to develop into a wider conflict.

They specifically appealed to the Ekiti State Deputy Governor’s Office not to incite members of the Eda-Oniyo community against Obbo-Aiyegunle residents, stressing the importance of maintaining peace between the neighbouring communities.

The community also called for fairness and restraint from government officials and other stakeholders involved in resolving the disagreement. They maintained that the interests of both communities should be considered in any intervention aimed at settling the matter.

According to the residents, peaceful engagement remains the most appropriate way to address the issues at stake and prevent longstanding relationships between the communities from being damaged.

They therefore urged all parties to refrain from inflammatory statements or actions that could heighten tension, while calling on relevant authorities to facilitate meaningful discussions between the communities.

The appeal comes as concerns over the dispute continue to attract attention, with residents seeking government intervention that would promote understanding and prevent the situation from degenerating into a broader communal crisis.
