KWARA ASSEMBLY PASSES ₦656.5BN 2026 BUDGET WITH ₦10.5BN INCREASE
The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of ₦656.5 billion, representing a ₦10.5 billion increase over the proposal earlier submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The budget was passed on Friday following the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary.
Announcing the passage, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu said the upward review resulted from a detailed scrutiny of the estimates to ensure fiscal realism, efficiency and effective implementation for the benefit of Kwarans.
“The revised budget reflects the House’s commitment to aligning government spending with developmental priorities and prevailing economic realities,” the Speaker said.
A breakdown of the approved budget shows that recurrent expenditure now stands at ₦409.6 billion, reflecting an increase of about ₦10.5 billion from the original executive proposal.
Similarly, capital expenditure was raised to ₦271 billion, up from ₦254 billion, to boost funding for key infrastructure and development projects across the state.
Danladi-Salihu explained that the adjustments were necessary to accelerate critical projects and enhance service delivery in line with the administration’s development agenda.
He also disclosed that debt servicing for the 2026 fiscal year has been adjusted to ₦14.2 billion, slightly higher than the earlier projection.
“The House carefully examined the budget in line with constitutional provisions and approved a realistic and implementable appropriation that will deliver maximum value to the people of Kwara State,” the Speaker added.
He assured that the legislature would continue to exercise strict oversight to ensure prudent implementation of the budget and accountability in public spending.
