Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has received a big vote of confidence in the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or — from none other than his club and France international teammate, Jules Kounde.

Yamal, just 18, is among the 30 players shortlisted for the prestigious award, where he is expected to compete with fellow Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

When asked about Yamal’s chances, Kounde didn’t hold back:

“Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d’Or? You’re putting me in a tricky situation, but I think he deserves it. I have a very good relationship with him. He is a team player, he works a lot for the team. I understand him perfectly.”

Yamal had a stunning campaign last season with 18 goals for La Liga champions Barcelona, alongside impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League. His rise has been nothing short of spectacular, having been promoted to the first team by former manager Xavi.

The teenager’s meteoric rise has made him one of the most talked-about young players in world football. And with support from teammates like Kounde, fans will be watching closely to see if 2025 could mark the beginning of a new era — with Lamine Yamal lifting the Ballon d’Or.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
