KOGI PLANS ₦8.55BN SOCIAL INVESTMENT PACKAGE FOR 281,750 BENEFICIARIES

The Kogi State Government has proposed an ₦8.55bn social investment package targeting 281,750 beneficiaries across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.

The state Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Idris, disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on the sidelines of a meeting of the Kogi State Commissioners’ Forum.

He said the proposed package would cover social transfers, livelihood support, climate-smart public works, community infrastructure, agricultural inputs and the expansion of the State Social Register.

Under the Social Cash Transfer Unit, one component is expected to benefit 5,000 people across the 21 LGAs at a projected cost of ₦1.237bn.

Another component will provide livelihood support to 15,000 beneficiaries at an estimated cost of ₦2bn.

The Labour-Intensive Public Works programme is projected to engage 3,400 beneficiaries in climate-smart public works, with about ₦1.088bn earmarked for the initiative.

The Community and Social Development Agency is also expected to support basic services and infrastructure across communities, with an estimated cost of ₦2.072bn.

The FADAMA component is projected to benefit 7,350 people through agricultural inputs and assets at an estimated cost of ₦1.854bn.

Meanwhile, the State Operations Coordinating Unit is expected to cover 250,000 beneficiaries through the expansion of the State Social Register, with ₦300.55m allocated to the component.

The proposed interventions are aimed at strengthening social protection, improving livelihoods, supporting vulnerable households, creating climate-smart employment and boosting agricultural activities across Kogi State.
