KOGI GOVERNOR VOWS JUSTICE FOR MURDERED PHOTOJOURNALIST, AYO AIYEPEKU
The Kogi State Government has promised to ensure justice is served in the tragic killing of 26-year-old photojournalist, Ayo Aiyepeku, whose lifeless body was recently discovered on the outskirts of Lokoja after days of search.
In a statement issued in Lokoja, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the heartbreaking incident.
Governor Ododo said while justice won’t bring Ayo back, it will bring comfort to his grieving family and serve as a warning to prevent such cruel acts in the future. “We will leave no stone unturned. The people’s safety remains our top priority,” he added.
Ayo, an indigene of Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area, was reportedly lured and killed by a correctional service officer identified as Adebayo Pelumi. The suspect fled with Ayo’s body, sparking an intense manhunt by the police.
Tragically, the prime suspect was later found dead in a hotel room, with early findings pointing to suicide. Authorities believe he may have taken his own life after the murder.
The late Ayo’s remains have since been recovered and deposited at the Specialist Hospital morgue in Lokoja.
The government is urging residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing investigations by sharing any helpful information with law enforcement agencies.
