KOGI ADC CHIEFTAIN COMMENDS RESCUE OF ABDUCTED KWARA RESIDENTS

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Usman Austin Okai, has praised the successful rescue of abducted residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing it as evidence of effective coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Okai said the operation demonstrated the impact of intelligence-led policing, seamless information sharing, and collaboration between security agencies and local vigilantes.

He commended the Nigerian military, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, and local vigilante groups for their roles in securing the victims’ release after months in captivity.

Okai urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that national security should not be politicised.

“The successful rescue of the Woro abductees reflects effective intelligence gathering, seamless information sharing and operational coordination among security agencies and local assets,” he said.

He also applauded the DSS leadership for prosecuting a retired DSS officer, Ihechimere Ezeakolam, describing the move as a demonstration of accountability within the country's security institutions.

According to Okai, the Nigerian military and the police should adopt similar internal accountability measures to improve transparency and strengthen ongoing operations against banditry and insurgency.

Ezeakolam was recently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre by the Federal High Court in Abuja over charges relating to alleged support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
