The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a strong warning to South Africa over the recent spate of attacks and killings targeting Nigerians in the country, threatening to take tough diplomatic and retaliatory measures if the situation is not addressed promptly.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yusuf Tuggar, conveyed Nigeria’s deep concern during a diplomatic engagement, demanding that South African authorities ensure the safety of Nigerian nationals and bring perpetrators to justice. “We will not stand idly by while our citizens are targeted. South Africa must act decisively,” Tuggar stated.

The warning follows reports of xenophobic violence and criminal attacks that have resulted in the loss of Nigerian lives and property. The Nigerian government has also advised its citizens in South Africa to exercise caution and report incidents to the embassy.

South African officials have pledged to investigate the matters and improve security for foreign nationals.

The escalation has raised tensions between the two nations, with calls for high-level bilateral talks to prevent further deterioration of relations.
