Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has ordered the creation of a multi-stakeholder committee to address persistent power outages affecting residents and businesses.

The committee is expected to engage the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company following widespread complaints about poor electricity supply.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Birnin Kebbi, the governor described the situation as unacceptable and harmful to economic development, stressing that the state would no longer tolerate prolonged outages without clear solutions.

He announced that the committee would include representatives from government, labour unions, civil society groups, youth organisations, traditional institutions, and KEDCO.

Idris also revealed that the state had suspended its monthly ₦150 million support to the power company due to unsatisfactory service, noting that future support would depend on measurable improvements.

In response, KEDCO Managing Director, Umar Hashidu, attributed the power crisis to limited electricity allocation, financial constraints, energy theft, and infrastructure challenges.

The governor added that the state is exploring alternative power solutions to reduce reliance on the national grid, while stakeholders agreed to collaborate through the new committee to improve the electricity supply.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
