The Kebbi State Government has assured residents of border communities that enhanced security measures are being implemented to protect them following recent deadly attacks in parts of Arewa Local Government Area.

Deputy Governor Abubakar Tafida, speaking on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris during condolence visits on Friday, expressed the state’s commitment to supporting families affected by the attacks in Mamuni, Awashaka, Kurin-Naida, Tungar Tsoho, Danmairago, and Makargara communities near the Nigeria–Niger Republic border.

Tafida said the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies, is rolling out a strengthened security strategy to prevent further incursions by armed bandits.

“The governor is taking the issue of renewed strategy and commitment very seriously. We are ensuring stronger collaboration and more vigilant monitoring among all stakeholders in the security sector,” he said.

He added that both state and federal authorities are investing in security infrastructure and intensifying efforts to “take the fight to the bandits in their hideouts wherever they are holed up.”

Kebbi, like many North-West states, has in recent years faced cross-border banditry, cattle rustling, and sporadic attacks on rural settlements, particularly in communities near the Niger Republic frontier.

The deputy governor urged residents to cooperate closely with security agencies by providing credible intelligence on suspicious activities. “We appeal to you to continue supporting the security agencies with useful information. Together, we can defeat this menace,” he said, praying for the repose of those who lost their lives and encouraging families to accept the tragedy as the will of Almighty Allah.

He also announced monetary assistance for families of the deceased and for victims receiving treatment in hospitals.

Residents who spoke during the visits commended soldiers for their swift and courageous response, which prevented further casualties.

Malam Dogo Mamuni, representing Mamuni community, where most fatalities occurred, said the troops’ timely intervention was crucial.

“When the soldiers arrived, the bandits were about to enter houses. They engaged them in a gunfight, forcing them to retreat into the bush. Their prompt response saved many lives. We appreciate their courage and professionalism,” he said.
