KEBBI GOVERNOR JOINS NIGERIA’S DELEGATION FOR 81ST UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has joined Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the country is expected to engage international leaders and development partners on issues affecting national and state development. Idris is among the senior Nigerian officials participating in the high-level gathering, which brings together representatives of countries from around the world for discussions on global challenges and cooperation.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the General Assembly on the mandate of President Bola Tinubu. Shettima arrived in New York on Monday alongside Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Doris Uzoka-Anite and other senior government officials. The Vice President is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate and participate in high-level and bilateral meetings throughout the UNGA programme.
The 81st General Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” Nigeria is expected to use its participation to advance its positions on international cooperation, peace and security, economic development, climate finance, technology access and reforms to global institutions. The country is also renewing its advocacy for stronger African representation in international decision-making, including its long-standing push for reform of the United Nations Security Council.
Governor Idris is expected to use the international gathering to promote Kebbi State’s economic opportunities and attract potential investors to the state. During a briefing on Nigeria’s UNGA priorities, Idris and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said their states possess significant solid mineral resources that could be presented to international investors. The Kebbi governor is also expected to engage with stakeholders on areas of mutual economic interest and opportunities that could support investment and development in the state.
Nigeria’s delegation will participate in several engagements on the sidelines of the General Assembly, including meetings with foreign leaders, international organisations and development partners. The discussions are expected to provide opportunities for strengthening strategic partnerships and promoting Nigeria’s economic and development interests. The General Debate is scheduled to run through September 28, with Shettima representing President Tinubu at the high-level session.
