KEBBI GOVERNOR DISSOLVES STATE ELECTORAL COMMISSION BOARD AFTER TENURE EXPIRY

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the dissolution of the governing board of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission following the expiration of the members’ statutory tenure. The development was announced as part of efforts to ensure a smooth transition within the state’s electoral management structure.

The dissolved body, known as KEBSIEC, is responsible for organising and conducting local government elections in Kebbi State. Governor Idris’ decision means the previous members will no longer continue in their respective positions after completing the period for which they were appointed.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the independence and effectiveness of the state electoral commission. The government said the electoral body would continue to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations governing local government elections in the state.

The dissolution comes at a time when preparations for future electoral activities remain an important issue across Nigerian states. The composition and independence of state electoral commissions have frequently attracted public attention, particularly because of their responsibility for conducting council elections.
