The Kebbi State Government has announced that all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state will resume for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The directive was issued through separate statements jointly signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.

The state government had earlier shut down schools following the abduction of 25 students from Government Day Secondary School, Maga, in Zuru Local Government Area, allegedly by bandits.

According to the statements, the decision to reopen schools reflects the government’s determination to sustain a stable and uninterrupted academic calendar after the successful completion of the first term.

“All school administrators, education secretaries, principals, head teachers, teachers, parents and students are requested to note this directive and ensure strict compliance,” the statement said.

The government emphasized the importance of adequate preparations ahead of resumption to guarantee a smooth start to academic activities across both urban and rural communities.

School heads were instructed to ensure that teachers and facilities are fully prepared, while parents and guardians were urged to ensure their children and wards resume promptly to promote effective teaching and learning.

Meanwhile, a related circular informed Zonal Education Officers, principals, head teachers and private school proprietors that the first week of the second term would be used to conduct outstanding first-term examinations.

Normal classroom teaching is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, after the examinations.

The government also warned that strict compliance with the resumption timetable and examination schedule would be enforced, adding that monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure adherence.

Education stakeholders have described the directive as timely, noting that it will help reinforce academic discipline and improve learning outcomes across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
