KATUNG SAYS NEW ICT CENTRE WILL EQUIP SOUTHERN KADUNA YOUTHS WITH DIGITAL SKILLS
The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has explained that the ongoing construction of a 700-capacity Information and Communication Technology and Computer-Based Test centre in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, is aimed at reducing the digital gap and preparing young people in Southern Kaduna for opportunities in the modern economy.
Katung disclosed this while inspecting the project on Saturday, saying the facility would give students and other young people in the area greater access to computers and modern technology. He said the centre was conceived to help youths acquire digital skills that could improve their education and future career prospects, particularly as technology continues to play a major role in employment and learning.
The senator expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the site but urged the contractors to maintain the quality of construction and comply with the agreed specifications. He also directed them to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated 12-month period, stressing that the facility was intended to provide lasting value to residents of the senatorial district.
According to Katung, the centre will serve as a CBT facility for examinations conducted by bodies including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the West African Examinations Council. Beyond examinations, he said it would function as a hub for digital learning, innovation and skills development, with youths from the eight local government areas in Kaduna South expected to benefit from the facility.
The site engineer, Builder Haruna Daniel, described the project as one of the biggest ICT centres being developed in the country and assured that the contractors would deliver a quality facility within the agreed timeframe. Katung said his inspection was part of his routine monitoring of constituency projects designed to improve educational and economic opportunities for people across Kaduna South.
