Safana LGA Reaches Truce with Bandits in Gemi Forest

Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State has reached a peace agreement with bandits operating in the Gemi Forest, with both sides pledging to end attacks and harassment.

The deal, revealed in a post by Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night, includes assurances that farmers and herders can freely work on their land, trade, and access essential services without fear.

As part of the agreement, the local council has also committed to repairing schools, clinics, and dams that serve Fulani communities in the area.

“Safana LGA signs truce with bandits in Gemi Forest. Both sides pledge no more attacks or harassment; farmers and herders are free to work, trade, and access services. The LGA promised school, clinic, and dam repairs for Fulani communities,” Bakatsine wrote.

However, despite the peace pact in Safana, insecurity persisted elsewhere in the state. In Dandume Local Government Area on Sunday afternoon, bandits attacked a farm, abducting several people. Security forces later rescued the victims, but a man identified as Abdullahi tragically lost his life during the incident.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding either development.
