A woman identified as Hafsatu Yusuf has died after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

The development was confirmed by the Kano State Ministry of Health through its Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, who said she passed away around 2 a.m. on Thursday.

According to him, Yusuf suffered persistent bleeding after delivering the five babies, three boys and two girls, and despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her, she could not be saved.

“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.

The deceased has since been buried in line with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.

Meanwhile, the quintuplets are reported to be in stable condition and are currently receiving medical care at the hospital. The state government had earlier taken responsibility for the treatment of both the mother and the babies following the delivery.

The ministry has appealed to the public to support the newborns with essential items such as milk, as efforts continue to ensure their well-being.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
