A tragic scene unfolded in Abedi Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, where a three-story uncompleted building collapsed following heavy rainfall, leaving four people dead and seven others injured.

The incident happened around 6:42 p.m. on Sunday, after hours of relentless downpour weakened the structure. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), led by its Kano State Coordinator Nuraddeen Abdullahi, confirmed the casualties and said rescue operations began immediately after they received a distress alert at about 6:49 p.m.

By early Monday morning, emergency teams had recovered two bodies and rescued six injured people from the rubble. Later, two more deaths and another injury were confirmed, bringing the toll to four dead and seven injured.

“Several individuals are suspected to still be trapped, and efforts are being intensified to reach them safely,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that rescue workers, supported by heavy equipment and lighting, secured the site to keep large crowds away and ensure responders’ safety.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with hopes of finding more survivors. NEMA says a detailed report will be compiled after operations end.

Meanwhile, families and residents are anxiously waiting, hoping their loved ones will be found alive. This tragedy highlights once again the urgent need for stricter building standards and better drainage systems to prevent future disasters, especially as the rains continue.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
