KANO TARGETS 10,000 DRUG USERS FOR REHABILITATION

The Kano State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate about 10,000 people struggling with drug use as part of efforts to tackle substance abuse and its impact on communities.

The initiative is expected to provide affected individuals with access to rehabilitation, counselling and other forms of support aimed at helping them recover and reintegrate into society.

The state government said addressing drug abuse requires more than enforcement and should include treatment and rehabilitation for people affected by substance use.

Authorities are expected to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to identify individuals in need of support and provide appropriate rehabilitation services.

The programme is also aimed at reducing the social and security challenges associated with substance abuse, particularly among young people.

Officials urged families and community leaders to support efforts to help people affected by drug use rather than stigmatise them, stressing that rehabilitation can improve their chances of returning to productive lives.

The government also called for greater awareness of the dangers associated with substance abuse and encouraged residents to seek professional help where necessary.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns about substance abuse in parts of Nigeria, with governments and health agencies increasingly focusing on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Kano State said it would continue working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen efforts against drug abuse and provide support for affected residents.
