KANO POLICE IMPOSE MOVEMENT RESTRICTIONS AHEAD OF BY-ELECTIONS IN FOUR LGS
The Kano State Police Command has announced a strict movement restriction in four local government areas ahead of Saturday’s scheduled by-elections. The restriction will be in effect from midnight on Friday, August 15, to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, identified the affected LGAs as Bagwai, Shanono, Ghari, and Tsanyawa.
During this period, movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles will be prohibited, except for essential services such as ambulances, fire trucks, and vehicles of electoral officers and accredited election observers.
The police emphasized that the measures aim to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and transparent electoral process for the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency re-run and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election.
Only eligible voters will be allowed at polling units, and agents accredited by INEC will have access. Carrying of weapons, wearing clothing with political party logos, or loitering near polling units will not be tolerated. Security personnel from vigilante groups and KAROTA will also be restricted from polling areas.
The Kano State Police Command, under CP Ibrahim Bakori, assured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order and urged everyone to cooperate fully with law enforcement to guarantee a smooth electoral exercise.
