The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has directed senior officers to remain neutral, professional and apolitical ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bakori gave the directive on Monday during a strategic lecture on election security management organised for Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and heads of tactical and operational units in Kano.

The commissioner warned officers against participating in partisan political activities or compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

He said the police had a constitutional responsibility to provide a level playing field for political parties and actors during elections.

Bakori also directed officers to respect human rights and the rule of law while carrying out their responsibilities during the election period.

He urged operational commanders to strengthen community engagement and intelligence-led policing, noting that public trust was important to effective election security.

The commissioner further instructed officers to sustain measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful electoral process across the state.

He said the command would provide security before, during and after the 2027 elections in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Bakori also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with electoral laws.

The command warned against actions capable of disrupting public peace and encouraged residents to provide security agencies with credible information.
